I was glad to see a second season of Ginny and Georgia, since I enjoyed the first one.
Many who grew up in a single mother childhood can relate and understand the figure of a strong women, trying to keep the family afloat, without any financial help from the outside.
Did you experience this? could you relate?
The criminal history of Georgia (Brianne Howey) is shown as a complex reality. She was exposed to extreme poverty and loneliness in childhood, and this scared her. The interesting part is how she evolved and became her fearless self, so the world does not scare her as much. She becomes a criminal and if you did not know it already, spoiler alert: also a murderer.
Georgia’s struggles, as a trailer park baby: Mother is a drug addict, the father was abusing her sexually and ruined her life. This flashbacks in her earlier life, what makes this series interesting and captivating. She escaped the family, because of the abusive stepdad. Here outside she is encountering a biker gang, which give her protection and the philosophy of stinging first, who is stinging us, before they can destroy you.
What do you think about this ruthless philosophy?
When she meets Ginny’s dad, Zion (Kyle Bary and Nathan Mitchel), everything changes, she becomes mother as such a young age, but for her deep love of her daughter, wanting to provide her a perfect life, that is her life goal. She will always try to do the best to protect Ginny.
The series is filled with flashbacks into Georgia’s (Nikki Roumel) past. In the present, Georgia moves her family, her daughter, and her younger son Austin, to Wellsbury. Here she wants to start over. Her husband Kenny had just died in an car accident while he had a heart attack. Wellsbury is the new start the widow needs. She wants to live in this picture-perfect neighbourhood, where she and her family can be safe.
Do you like Wellsbury? Is it too picture perfect?
She knows this small town since she was a young girl. Georgia just found out she was pregnant with Ginny in the bathroom of a gas station. When she went outside, she saw all these happy kids, her age, stopping there with their tour bus. They were having a school trip. The encounter with Joe (Raymond Ablack), who was very kind to her, changed her life.
What did you think about the Georgia’s past?
The story is also Ginny’s (Antonia Gentry), a young teenager who has been moved her whole life from one place and another, never really developing friendship, not feeling real ownership of her life.
When Georgia moves her to Wellsbury she finally meets friends and develops profound relationships, she never had before. Especially with her neighbour Maxine ‘Max’ Baker (Sara Waisglass).
Did you like the character of Max? and how they became besties?
Ginny is very troubled, though her mother does not know it, she injures herself.
It is also really tough for her when the twin brother of Max, Marcus takes advantage of her. What Ginny went through with him is a harsh reality. She really likes Marcus and without knowing him much, he finds his way through her window to her bedroom. That is really creepy, but since she likes him, she is surprised, but doesn’t mind him being their.
It doesn’t seem to be his first time, but it is hers. He takes her virginity here in her new bedroom, in an unromantic and undeserving manner, and leaves from her window. Ginny who did not even tell him she was a virgin, had no real conversation with this guy. That is why she feels even more emptier than she felt before.
Unpleasant sexual encounters are not out of the ordinary. Would you say it was traumatic for her?
You see how traumatizing it can be for a young women to lose their virginity. He is just a boy, but he treats her like a plaything.
Ginny is connected to Marcus and in love with him, but she ignores her feelings as Marcus is not mature and is also dating a certain Padma, another girl from school. Padma (Rebeccca Ablack) is also in love with Marcus, but he is not ready to commit. He is very conflicted and just lost his best friend the year before.
Georgia finds this lovely house in this picturesque neighborhood, but money problems are on the horizon. Kenny, her deceased husband, was wealthy man, with different yoga studios, but his previous wife has contested his will and therefore Georgia can’t afford to live there.
She needs to find a way. Georgia has the idea of working at the mayor’s office and can win them over by solving a problem for them. Mayor Randolph is very handsome man, and she quickly is infatuated with him, as is the whole town.
What did you think about her finding a job at the mayor’s office?
Her colleague Nick (Dan Beirne), who eventually becomes a good friend, is mad jealous that someone without references can have the assistant job at the mayor’s office. He has a political science degree and is furious with her. At the beginning he makes her life hell, but she proves herself various times.
What would you have done in Nicks situation?
Unfortunately, even with this great opportunity she cannot wipe her sleight clean. She uses the check books from the office to get the money she needs. Of course, this is illegal, and she is doing something criminal, which will bite her in the back.
This is only the start of the first season of Ginny and Georgia, and there is so much that will happen. What is your favorite story?
Did you also see the second season of Ginny and Georgia?
The second season of Ginny an Georgia is quite slow, and fires up at the end, right?
They really put a cliff-hanger in the End, but I would have loved to see more action during the season itself.
What I really like about the series is that it tells the story about trauma and mental illness, how impacts the people. Austin (Diesel La Torraca) the younger brother for example is traumatized by the fact of losing his father and has clearly issues because Georgia told him all these mystical lies. Telling him his father is a magician. I don’t know, I think Georgia is gaslighting her son, by not telling him the truth. Is he too young to know the truth?
All will change when his father, Gil (Aaron Ashmore) gets out of prison and we get to know the truth about him.
Georgia is in fear to have ruined her kids’ lives. What do you think, did she?
For sure she gave them a better life and more love than she ever had experienced.
Ginny ends up being together with Marcus, but he has mental health issues, he suffers from depression and is pushed to end things with her. The lesson she learns is that even if he cannot be his boyfriend she has to be there for him as a friend, although she would prefer to be his lover. Do you think it was the right decision?
Do you like this series? What are your thoughts?
Let me know if i should write more about Ginny and Georgia or others from the story.
Georgia ends up marrying the Randolph, but their story is has no happy ending.
