Princess Weiyoung is really a great historical romance drama.
The beauty of the ancient places, palaces and temples in China. The colourful crafted traditional clothing. It all creates a really aesthetically pleasing show.
A beauty to the eye, not only the whole setting of the show, but also the princess weiyoung (Tiffany Tang) is very stunning, as is the male protagonist Tuoba Jun (Luo Jin), Li Changle (Li Xin’ai) and also the rest of the cast fits so perfectly in their roles.
Based from the book The Poisonous Daughter by Qin Jian, you are transported in a different era, during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, China.
Feng Xin Er is the princess of Northern Liang. Her father is accused of rebellion, and almost the entire royal family of Northern Liang is murdered. She can escape, but her life will be never the same.
Xin Er is rescued by Li WeiYoung, the prime minister’s illegitimate daughter. After Wei Young’s murder, Xin Er takes on her identity and becomes part of the prime minister’s household, hoping to avenge her father’s death. Due to her training as a royal, to her knowledge in court politics, her intelligence and help from others, she is able to survive.
The house of the prime minister is a treacherous household with many intrigues that await her. While she impersonates Li Weiyoung, she is put to the test over and over again. No one knows how Li WeiYoung really looks like, she was banished to the countryside, because she is the illegitimate daughter.
The wife of the minister, Chiyun Rou (Lily Tien), does not want her. She has her own daughter Changle, who is in love with Touba Jun, the crown prince.
The crown prince has also his own enemies, and falls deeply in love with princess weiyoung.
Their first encounter is early in the season, when she is still a princess in her land. For the occasion of her grandmothers birthday, the princess is gifting her grandmother lanterns. To get them in the city, the princess and her bodyguard Jun Tao disguise dressed as men.
When they get the lanterns one flies away and the princess tries to jump after it, but can’t catch it. Touba Jun who is eating in the tavern near by is disrupted by her failed attempts and helps her to get the lantern. While they jump together, holds her at her waist. He notices something is off with this man, but she leaves in such a haste he cannot understand what.
The next time they meet, she going to the prime ministers house, and her room at the tavern is lit on fire. Touba Jun is also staying at the tavern and helps them get out safely. She thanks him for saving hers and the maids life.
The following time, she is living with the prime minister and fallen ill, because of the treacherous attempt on her life by her step mother who is again trying to kill her. They leaves her for dead in a forest, convinced that she has a transmitting disease to the rest of the family. Touba Jun finds her hiding from wolves in a rocky forest, while he is also running from his enemies.
He meets her very pale and sickly, she faints in his arms. He manages to bring her to a retreat, where she is healed with acupuncture by a doctor. The procedure seems very painful, but she is able to survive this attack and go back even more cautious than before.
She does not know he is the crown prince and has beautiful days with him. While he is taken care of her, they get to know each other on a deeper intimate level and are very enamoured. After some days he has to leave very hastily, while she is sleeping. That is why he writes her a letter to meet again.
Unfortunately, before she can receive the letter, it falls in a pot of water that the maid was preparing for her. So the maid concealed the letter from her, not wanting repercussions for ruining it.
Princess Weiyoung does not know why he left and is disappointed by the fact they did not say goodbye. But now with new strength she goes back to the treacherous household of the prime minister, where is faced with new challenges, this time not only defending herself but also plotting against her enemies actively and decisively.
Touba Jun awaits her at the meeting place that he wrote her in the letter. Since Weiyoung never received it, she is not there. Touba Jun is disappointed that she did not come. However, very surprised and happy when he meets her again at the prime ministers house and knows she is his daughter.
Princess Weiyoung was very pleased with him, but when she learns that he is the crown prince, she sees him as her enemy. Since her emperor killed her real family, she wants revenge, not to fall in love with him. These are the people she seeks revenge. By not being able to trust him, she grows cold towards him. Meanwhiles he does not understand her hot and cold behaviour, and he falls deeper and deeper in love with her.
The crown prince is not the only crown prince, he has uncles too. His own father is dead and the current emperor is his grandfather.
In the royal court even more power intrigues are present and the crown prince faces threats on his own.
While also Changle hopes to marry the crown prince, he has eyes only for Weiyoung. This fuels more hate and rivalry in the prime ministers house. Rivalry Weiyoung does not need at the moment, it is distracting her from her real goal, to avenge her family.
